New Delhi: January CPI inflation rose to 5.11 percent measured on new base year of 2012 as against 4.28 percent month on month, government data said on Thursday.
The Central Statistics Office (CSO), Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation has revised the Base Year of the Consumer Price Index (CPI) from 2010=100 to 2012=100.
As per official figures CPI (General) Rural stood at 5.25 percent, CPI Urban stood at 4.96 percent and CPI combined stood at 5.11 percent.
Markets gained for the third straight session today with the benchmark Sensex surging over 271 points to 28,805.10 on fag-end buying in some blue-chips ahead of retail inflation and IIP data.
Meanwhile, RBI Governor Raghuram Rajan had couple of days back said that inflation is “still a concern for the central bank and the monetary policy continues being conventional".
"We still have concerns over inflation. So, given the deflationary environment elsewhere, it is actually easier for us because we are not fighting inflation in an environment where inflation is picking up elsewhere. I think we are still in conventional monetary policy territory," Rajan had said.
