Five Army soldiers were injured on Wednesday after a vehicle they were travelling in overturned in Jammu and Kashmir's Poonch district.
The incident took place in Ghani village, Mankoke sector, as the troops, stationed in the Balnoi area near the Line of Control, were traveling home on leave in a taxi.
The injured soldiers sustained minor injuries and were promptly taken to Sub-district Hospital Mendhar for treatment, as per media reports.
"The vehicle was going to Jammu from Dhara Dullian in Poonch when it skidded off the road around 7.30 a.m. The injured soldiers were posted at Balnoi Nangi Takeri. They were proceeding on leave when the accident occurred," the official said.
A replacement vehicle was arranged to ensure the soldiers could continue their journey. Police have registered the incident and initiated further proceedings, officials added.
The Army is responsible for guarding the Line of Control (LoC) in Poonch, Rajouri, and parts of Jammu district, as well as in Baramulla, Bandipora, and Kupwara in the Valley. The Border Security Force (BSF) secures the International Border (IB) in Jammu, Samba, and Kathua districts. Jammu and Kashmir has a 740-km-long LoC and a 240-km-long IB. The Army monitors infiltration, cross-border smuggling, and drone activities along the LoC, while the BSF handles similar responsibilities on the IB.
Following the suspension of Operation Sindoor, security forces have intensified operations against terrorists, their overground workers (OGWs), and sympathizers in Jammu and Kashmir. Drug traffickers and hawala networks are also under scrutiny, as funds generated through these channels are believed to sustain terrorism in the region. The revised strategy of the security forces focuses on dismantling the entire terror ecosystem in Jammu and Kashmir rather than only targeting armed terrorists.
