According to IMD, the depression was located near 13.0 degrees North and 80.6 degrees East, around 50 km east of Chennai, 140 km northeast of Puducherry, 160 km north-northeast of Cuddalore, and 170 km south-southeast of Nellore. The weather department added that the system was only about 35 km away from the Tamil Nadu-Puducherry coast at its closest point.
