By Zee Media Bureau | Last Updated: Saturday, February 8, 2025 - 20:07

Dilli Chunav Results 2025 Highlights: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) maintained its decisive lead from the beginning of vote counting at 8 AM on Saturday, February 8. The saffron party crossed the magical number of 36 seats, marking a landslide victory in the national capital after 27 years of exile. According to the Election Commission, the BJP secured 48 seats, AAP bagged 22 constituencies, while Congress failed to open its account.

Voting for all 70 assembly seats took place on Wednesday, February 5, following a high-voltage campaign. The 2025 Delhi mandate aligned with earlier predictions by pollsters, who had forecasted a landslide victory for the BJP in the national capital. However, the defeat of AAP convenor and former Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal from the New Delhi constituency came as a shock to many. BJP’s Parvesh Sahib Singh Verma snatched the high-stakes New Delhi seat from Kejriwal’s hold by a margin of 4,089 votes.

Several senior AAP leaders, including Manish Sisodia, Satyendra Jain, Saurabh Bhardwaj, and Awadh Ojha, suffered unexpected defeats against BJP candidates. Meanwhile, Delhi CM Atishi managed to secure a majority of votes from the Kalkaji seat. Addressing the media, she stated, "We accept people's mandate... but this is not a time for celebration."

The voter turnout was 60.44% this year, two per cent lower than the 2020 turnout. The voting for the 70 assembly seat was held on February 5. The BJP has claimed that its voters came out this time while the AAP has exuded confidence in retaining power. The final results would be out in a few hours from now.
