Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurates SEMICON India 2025 at Yashobhoomi, New Delhi on Tuesday, with a vision to strengthen India’s semiconductor ecosystem and position the country as a global hub in chip manufacturing and design.

Addressing the gathering, PM Modi highlighted the growing importance of semiconductors in shaping the modern world. He remarked that “oil was once considered black gold, but chips are digital diamonds,” stressing that while the last century was driven by oil, the 21st century’s power lies in semiconductors that can accelerate global development.

 

 

At Semicon India 2025, PM Modi highlighted that India has semiconductor experts across the world, which reflects the global trust in India and the willingness to build the future of semiconductors together.

He welcomed all the investors and said, "The day is not far when the world will say, Designed in India, Made in India, Trusted by the World..."

India Clears Rs 1.5 Lakh-Cr Semiconductor Push

PM Modi also outlined India’s rapid progress in the semiconductor sector while addressing Semicon India 2025. He added that the journey began in 2021 with the launch of the Semicon India program, followed by approval of the country’s first semiconductor plant in 2023. In 2024, more plants were sanctioned, and by 2025, five additional projects were cleared. While, investments worth over Rs 1.5 lakh crore are flowing into ten semiconductor projects.
