Delhi Blast Case: In a major development in the Delhi blast case, investigators have learned from key suspect Muzammil that he and his associate, Umar, had surveyed the Red Fort area days before the explosion that claimed nine lives. Sources said Muzammil was questioned extensively and confronted with data retrieved from his mobile phone. During interrogation, he allegedly revealed that there was a plan to carry out an attack on January 26 next year, with the Red Fort area being part of the reconnaissance.
Investigators were also told that the duo had considered targeting a crowded area during Diwali, but the plan was eventually dropped.
Muzammil, a senior doctor by profession, came under the scanner after Monday’s powerful blast near the Red Fort triggered nationwide concern and heightened security alerts. His associate Umar, who worked with him at Al Falah University in Faridabad, is believed to have died in the explosion after the car went up in flames near a traffic signal close to the Red Fort Metro Station.
The ongoing probe has pointed to the involvement of a network of highly educated individuals mostly medical professionals linked to Al Falah University. Jammu and Kashmir Police have described this emerging nexus as part of a “white-collar terror ecosystem.”
“The group was reportedly using encrypted communication platforms for spreading propaganda, coordinating operations, managing funds, and handling logistics,” the official said. “Investigations have revealed that money was collected through professional and academic circles, disguised as contributions for social or charitable initiatives. The accused were also involved in spotting potential recruits, radicalising them, and inducting them into terror ranks, apart from arranging finances, logistics, weapons, ammunition, and materials used to make IEDs,” he added.
