ITR Filing Last Date 2025 Live Updates: How to Change Your Tax Regime While Filing ITR

With the ITR filing deadline approaching, here’s what you need to know about switching between the old and new tax regimes:

If you opted for the New Tax Regime last year and filed Form 10-IE, but now wish to move back to the old regime for A.Y. 2025-26, you must file Form 10-IE again this year to opt out. In your ITR-3/4, mention the filed Form 10-IE acknowledgement number and filing date.

ITR-1 and ITR-2 filers are not required to submit Form 10-IE to change their tax regime.

Individuals or HUFs with business/professional income must file Form 10-IEA before the due date under Section 139(1) to switch to the old regime. Once you opt for the old regime, you can switch back to the new regime only once in a lifetime by filing Form 10-IEA again before the due date.
